Wawrinka once reached the 3rd position in the ATP World ranking, however, he now sat at the 257th position. He won 3 Grand Slam titles in the Australian Open in 2014, Roland Garros in 2015, and the US Open in 2016. But he saw his luck is going away after winning the Geneva Open in 2017. This year he reached the round of 16 in Italy where he was eliminated by Novak Djokovic. His record this season is 2-3 and his overall career record is 641-350.
Last week, Stan Wawrinka won his first match since the 2021 Australian Open in Rome. He lost in the third round to eventual champion Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2. The 2015 champion hasn’t returned to his peak form, but he’s showing glimpses of brilliance. Wawrinka’s fitness will be key in best-of-5 matches.
ATP No. 139 Corentin Moutet. He lost in the second round of an ATP Challenger in France. In 2019, he reached the third round of the French Open. Moutet’s performance against the veteran will be interesting.
The French International is in a better position than his famous counterpart. Moutet now ranks 139 although his career-best position is 67. His win-loss record this year is 9-8 and his career record is 226-147. He is an interesting player to watch and reached the 2nd round in the Australian Open.

Prediction
Novak Djokovic eventually won the Italian Open last week, but Stan Wawrinka made it to the quarterfinals with an impressive run to the last 16. Having won the Australian Open, Roland-Garros, and the US Open three times apiece, the 37-year-old has won six of his 16 ATP titles on clay, the most recent of which was the 2017 Geneva Open. Rafael Nadal beat Stan Wawrinka in the final of the Australian Open, the only Grand Slam final Wawrinka has lost.
Corentin Moutet is ranked 139th in the world and hasn’t won a tour-level match since a five-set marathon loss to Sebastian Korda in the second round of the Australian Open in January, but the Frenchman is probably best in these conditions. A fun player to watch, but his temper gets the better of him as matches drag on, and Wawrinka has seen it all before to avoid getting sucked into his opponent’s antics.
As a matter of fact, Moutet’s record at Roland-Garros is excellent, and the Frenchman beat Wawrinka in three sets in their only previous encounter at the Qatar Open back in 2020. The winner of this match, which could go all the way to five sets, is a coin flip.
Moutet proves himself as a better player in clay court and his recent outings helped him a lot too. All of these things suggest that he will win the match against the former World Champion.
Prediction: Corentin Moutet will win in a straight set.
