The WTA Tour has arrived in Romania as the Transylvania Open 2022 is ready to start on the 10th of October in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Here you will find all the information regarding this year’s edition of the tournament.
Preview:
Transylvania Open is a relatively new event, having been established just last year. As a debut tournament, it did very well last year with many top female players participating, including Simona Halep, Ana Bogdan, and Emma Raducanu.
With the draw releases, we notice a number of leading women’s tennis stars joining the hard court yet again this year. Although the field is not as strong as last year. It is still formidable.
Defending Champion: Anett Kontaveit
The No. 1 seed for the 2022 Transylvania Open is the Czech, Barbora Krejčíkovái. Sakkari is currently world no. 14 in the WTA ranking. The former world no. 2, however, had to withdraw from the tournament.
Anhelina Kalinina is the 2nd seed in the tournament. The Ukrainian is having the best year of her career reaching a career-high no. 34 in the WTA ranking. She fell off a bit in the middle of the year and is now entering the tournament as world no. 47. Yet, the 25-year-old remains one of the favorites to win the whole thing.
The 3rd seed is world no. 46, Ana Bogdan from the host country, Romania. In 2022, Jabeur made her debut in the top 50 reaching as high as no. 46 in the world. She is riding on massive momentum as she reached at least the semi-finals in her last 3 WTA tournaments.
The reigning champion, Anett Kontaveit has withdrawn from the tournament following her walkover in the Ostrava Open last week.
