Kasatkina began her season by making it to the third round of the Australian Open and then to the Round of 16 in Doha. She then had a bad Golden Swing and had a rough start to the clay season. She did, however, make it to the Round of 16 of the Madrid Open and subsequently to the semifinals of the Italian Open.
By reaching the final, the 25-year-old can shatter her career-high WTA world ranking of the tenth, and she has already broken her Grand Slam record by reaching the semi-finals for the first time. Kasatkina won her maiden WTA victory on clay in 2017 at the Charleston Open.
