Jannik Sinner cruised past Carlos Alcaraz in the Croatian Open Final to take the latter’s Umag Crown.
On Sunday, the tennis world witnessed the battle of the next generation as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner faced off in the finals of the Croatian Open 2022. This marks the 2nd time in just a month’s span that the two youngsters meet each other.
Last time, in the round of 16 of the Wimbledon Championship, they had an intense match where Sinner eventually prevailed in 4 sets. This time around, world no. 5, Alcaraz was determined to take revenge. The stage for revenge was set for him as they faced each other in a final round of an event.
The Spaniard started strong, winning the first set on tiebreaks. Just when the revenge looked imminent, the 20-year-old Italian made a fiery comeback and blew Alcaraz off the court. Sinner went on to win the match 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 1-6.

“I come from a tough year until now. We had some unfortunate moments,” said a delighted Sinner, after winning his first title on clay.
“But we worked every time very hard to play better, to be a better player, a better person. So, I’m very happy to be finally lifting a trophy this year, but I know that I have a lot of things to improve.”

The defending champion, on the contrary, was upset at the result as expected. The circumstances could not be harder for the 19-year-old as he lost two finals in a row. In spite of the series of misfortune, Alcaraz is determined to come back to the top very soon.
