Rafael Nadal, his rival on the court and a great friend off it, wrote an emotional post paying tribute to him on Twitter. “We will have many more moments to share together in the future, there are still lots of things to do together, we know that. For now, I truly wish you all the happiness with your wife, Mirka, your kids, your family, and enjoy what’s ahead of you. I’ll see you in London @LaverCup.”, part of the post reads.
They are set to reunite at the upcoming Laver Cup, being parts of the ‘Big Four’ alongside Andy Murre and Novak Djokovic. The Laver Cup will commence on September 23 taking place in London. Federer and Nadal are the only duo in the men’s tennis open era to hold the top two spots in the ATP rankings for six long years.
However, The tennis world might witness yet another much-anticipated Federer-Nadal clash for one last time in history. Real Madrid is planning to host a tennis exhibition match between the two tennis rivals at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to ESPN. The stadium has been remodeled recently with a capacity of 80,000 audiences. It would set a historical new record in terms of audience count in a tennis match. Being a Real Madrid fan himself, Nadal will get to play a major role in convincing Federer. The match is not scheduled yet. Further updates are expected to come following the Laver Cup.
