While the event is not officially classified as an ATP Tour tournament, each match’s win-loss record is recorded under career ATP games. The tournament primarily attracts participants because of the huge prize money.
The event originated as a result of a collaboration between the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Italian Tennis Federation. The event is generally played over five days. The format consists of a two-group round-robin, followed by a semifinal and final.
In last year’s event, Carlos Alcaraz upset Sebastian Korda over 4-3, 4-2, and 4-2 sets, to become the defending champion of 2022. Although he initially qualified for the event but withdrew due to a recent major injury. As such, currently Lorenzo Musetti is the leading seed of the event.
