The 24th edition of the Moselle Open is about to begin as the ATP tour heads to France. This will serve you as an essential guide to all the actions from the Moselle Open 2022.
Previously known as the Open de Moselle, it is an ATP 250 tournament and one of the four ATP 250 events held in France. The tournament is played on the indoor hard courts at the Arènes de Metz.
The year 2022 marks the 24th edition of the Moselle Open. Established in 2003, this is arguably the most reputed of the four French ATP 250 tournaments. It has a certain appeal to many top tennis players in the world.
This year is no different as two of the top ten players of the ATP ranking have arrived in Metz in hopes to win the prestigious tournament. The two top 10 players, Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz are joined by six more top 50 players, including Lorenzo Musetti to make up the top seeds.
Defending Champion: Hubert Hurkacz
The 1st seed of the tournamnt is world number 1, Daniil Medvedev. 2022 has been an eventful year for Daniil Medvedev even though he failed to win a big event this year. Medvedev was consistent throughout the year as he reached 3 finals in 2022 including the Australian Open, where he lost against Rafael Nadal following a grueling five sets match.
Thanks to his consistency, the 26-year-old became the first person outside of the Big 4 to attain the no. 1 spot in the ATP rankings in the last 18 years. However, following a string of bad results in the US Open series, the Russian dropped down to no. 4 in the rankings.
The defending champion, Hubert Hurkacz is the 2nd seed of the tournament. Currently ranked at 10th in the ATP rankings, Hurkacz is having a decent year. He won his fifth ATP title in Halle. He also reached the finals of a masters 1000 for the second time in his career at the National Bank Open.
Seed no. 3 of the Moselle Open 2022 is the world no. 30 Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti is a young talent from Italy with huge potential. Having already won one title this year in Hamburg, the Italian looks to win his 2nd ATP title here in Metz.
