The ATP tour heads to Belgium for the 7th edition of the European Open. Here is everything you need to know about the event.
Established in 2016, this event is a part of the ATP 250 series. It is played in the indoor hardcourts of the beautiful Sentower Park in Antwerp.
European Open 2022 draw is star-studded judging by the number of strong players that have already arrived in Antwerp, the largest city in Belgium. Although no one from the top 10 is here, the draw is led by the world no. 11 Hubert Hurkacz, along with some of the big names of this generation. Players like Félix Auger-Aliassime, Diego Schwartzman, Karen Khachanov, and Stan Wawrinka are also among the entrants, and they are all eyeing the European Open crown.
The Polish tennis star, Hubert Hurkacz is the first seed of the 2022 European Open. Hurkacz now holds the 11th spot in the ATP rankings. He defeated former world No. 1 Danil Medvedev in the Halle Open final this season to win his maiden ATP 500 title. The 25-year-old is looking for his 2nd title of the season as enters the tournament as the top seed.
Félix Auger-Aliassime, who is currently ranked 13th in the world, is the tournament’s 2nd seed. Despite the fact that he slid out of the top 10 this season, 2022 has been an eventful year for him. Felix won two ATP singles championships in Rotterdam and Florence, and advanced to another grand final in Marseille. He is coming to this tournament riding a huge momentum as the win in the 2022 Firenze Open came just last week.
Diego Schwartzman is the third seed. Schwartzman saw some success in 2022 when he made it to two finals, one each in Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. The 30-year-old, though, fell short in both matches. He entered this event as the third seed, making him one of the favorites to win.
