Sixth seed Emma Raducanu confirmed her spot in the quarterfinals of the Hana Bank Korea Open 2022. The Briton secured a straight-set win over Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer on Thursday. The scoreline was 6-3 7-5. This is her third quarter-final to reach this year.
Wickmayer achieved her career-high rank of No. 12 on 19 April 2010. However, she fell down to 460 in the rankings after giving birth to her first child and being out of the game for a spell in 2021.
Raducanu broke her three back-to-back serves in the first set. She took advantage in the second set easing 3-0 ahead. Wickmayer kept her under heavy pressure for a while. Raducanu couldn’t make the most of a breakpoint in the third game but she managed to dominate the fifth one again. She made no compromise with her composure and consistency throughout the end to secure the victory.
The 19-year-old is set to meet Poland’s world number 51 Magda Linette in the last eight’s round. A victory in that match would set her record of winning three matches in a single tournament for the first time since the 2021 US Open. She won her first professional career title in the 2021 US Open Women’s singles.
