For the first time in Laver Cup history, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray— the ‘Big Four’ set to play together. Federer calls it the ‘Dream Team.
The fifth edition of the Laver Cup is all set to take place at The O2 Arena in London, scheduled from Sept. 23-25 this year. Novak Djokovic, the recently crowned Wimbledon champion, announced his commitment to the event on Friday, with Nadal, Federer, and Murray already confirmed to participate.
As soon as Laver Cup officials announced Djokovic’s addition to the event, tennis fans started expressing their exhilaration as this might be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness the four tennis legends playing together.
“Laver Cup is the only competition where you can have all the big rivals, the ‘Big Three’, ‘Big Four’ players joining in the same team. Of course, it is a very different and exciting concept for us players, but also for the fans around the world.” Djokovic said at Wimbledon.
While the ‘Big 3’ have been a part of the team before, this will be Andy Murray’s first appearance in the Laver Cup. Meanwhile, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz and Diego Schwartzman are confirmed so far to represent Team World alongside captain John McEnroe.
Notably, Bjorn Borg’s Team Europe has been lifting the trophy at all four of the event’s previous editions since the inaugural Laver Cup in 2017. Team Europe has never lost to Team World. With this historic lineup, they will certainly be looking to continue the streak with a fifth consecutive victory.
