The World No.1 Iga Swiatek took a well-earned two-week holiday. After winning her fourth straight championship at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, Swiatek withdrew from the Mutua Madrid Open to recover from a nagging shoulder.
Badosa, Sabalenka, and Sakkari were eliminated in Madrid. Badosa seemed unconcerned about the setback after a strong performance in Stuttgart.
