School Career:
In 2010, Jake Matthews played for the Elkins Knights high school football team in Missouri City. His tea finished the best season and he was a 1st-team all-district and all-greater Houston honoree. He was called to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl 2010. Here he also earned High Scool All-American honors by USA Today, SuperPrep, and Parade. Rivals.com recruit him as a 4-star player and the No. 7 offensive tackle in 2010. He got many offers from Alabama, Texas, Oregon, and Southern California but he chose Texas A&M.
College career:
In College, Matthews was selected in the First-Team All-Southeastern in both 2012 and 2013. He earned first-team All-American honors too by the Football Writers Association of America. In his senior season, he played left tackle then played right tackle for the previous three seasons.
Professional career:
In 2014, Atlanta Falcons drafted Matthews with the sixth overall pick in the NFL Draft. He played against the Saints in his 1st NFL game and suffered a high ankle sprain. But they won the game.
In 2015, Pro Football Focus revealed Matthews as the named the 3rd most improved player.
In 2016, Matthews and the Falcons reached Super Bowl LI. They played against the New England Patriots. In that match, he played all offensive snaps. They were defeated in overtime.
In 2017, the Falcons increase the fifth-year option on Matthews’ contract and he started at left tackle for the 3rd year for Falcons.
In 2018, Jake Matthews signed the Falcons with a five-year $75 million contract.
In 2019, Matthews was named to his first Pro Bow.
In 2020, Matthews played in all 16 games. He has been ranking 9 in pass blocking among all tackles in the NFL. But his run blocking had ranked 47th.
In 2022, Matthews signed the Falcons with a three-year $52.5 million contract.
