Former Gears and Fortnite professional player Chris “Xcells” Hill has been murdered following a shooting incident last night at a Boones Mill home in Virginia.
As per the reports of WXFR tv, he had an altercation with a homeowner that eventually turned violent. At one point, the homeowner shot and killed Hill. Authorities said the incident occurred in the neighborhood alongside Virgil Goode Highway.
The spokesperson further claimed that it was Hill, who approached the homeowner before their “encounter”. They found and identified the body. However, charges are yet to be filed.
Chris Hill, who went by his online alias, Xcells, had been a prominent player in the esports scene of Gears of War. He is most notable for his competitive journey with the team Enigma6 Group. After retiring from Gears of War in June 2017, Hill joined the Fortnite competitive circuit. Following his 2-year of professional play in Fortnite, Xcell put an end to his esports career in 2019.
The Gears of War community mourns the death of one of the game’s legends. Many former and current professional esports players have taken to social media to offer their condolences.

Before his untimely death, Chris “Xcells” Hill was but 26. The police investigation is still going on. We hope to get more information regarding the incident in a few days’ time.
