Dominick Cruz is setting his foot in the Octagon for the first time in 2022 as he faces Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera on Saturday, August 13, 2022.
Cruz is a veteran of the game and has been around since the early days of the UFC. Although considered to be way past his prime, the 37-year-old is still putting on impressive performances whenever he is given a chance. The former UFC Bantamweight Champion has fought twice since his loss to Henry Cejudo and won both of them.
Marlon “Chito” Vera rose to prominence following his win against the UFC superstar Sean O’Malley. Chito did not look back since that win. The 29-year-old Mexican is 3-1 since the fight, with the only loss coming against Jose Aldo via a controversial split decision.
With both fighters on a winning streak, the UFC has made this match-up to headline the UFC on ESPN 41: Cruz vs Vera on Aug 13 at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, USA.
As the fight night of Vera vs Cruz draws near, the fighters have already started to engage in trash talks. Cruz blasted his opponent of Saturday night saying Chito is irrelevant.
“Nobody cares that he won that fight. He’s just tired of being ignored because people don’t really care that much about him. When he wins, nobody says anything,” stated The Dominator in an interview.
Marlon Vera, on the contrary, is determined to get a win in his 3rd fight against former UFC Champions. He is riding on a massive momentum with his last win coming against another veteran, Rob Font.
Both fighters aim to put on a performance of a lifetime as a win in this fight might make them the no. 1 contender for the Bantamweight Championship.
