Islamic Solidarity Games 2021, the postponed event due to Covid-19, returns to Turkey. It is the first time in history that the Turkish Olympic Committee will organized the event. Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) directs and controls the tournament. Here you will know everything about the Islamic Solidarity Games 2022.
The fifth edition of the event is scheduled from 9 to 18 August 2022 to take place in the central Turkish province of Konya. Qualifier rounds are already in action. The opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday. The tournament will offer 355 medals to the top performers while more than 4,000 athletes from 56 countries will compete.
Islamic Solidarity Games was first held in 2005 and hosted by Mecca, Saudi Arabia in an attempt to develop solidarity and ties through sports among the Muslim world countries. However, non-Muslim citizens of Muslim countries can participate in the event too. The tournament has been organized every 4 years since 2010.
The last edition was held in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2017 where Turkey grabbed a total of 195 medals. Turkey also leads the medal table all-time with 305 medals including 95 gold, 101 silver, and 109 bronze medals.
