The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers Of America, held at the Old American Golf Club in Texas, has six of the top ten players in the world. The Colony at Old American Golf Club, a section of Golf Clubs at The Tribute, will host the Volunteers of America Classic on the LPGA Tour in 2022 from September to October 2 instead of the planned dates of September 19 to 25.
144 of the best female golfers in the world will compete at the Volunteers of America Classic in 2022, the only official LPGA Tour tournament to take place in Texas. In 2022, it’s projected that a large number of Texans will play again. The competition has been won by three Texans: Jin Young Ko in 2017, Cheyenne Knight in 2019, and Angela Stanford in 2020. (2021). The players’ prize pool is $1.7 million, which is $200,000 more than it was the year before. The award is valued at $255.000.
Defending Champion: Jin Young Ko
Jin Young Ko of South Korea won the competition last year for the eighth time on the LPGA Tour. Her strong start, where she tied the course record with a first-round score of 63, contributed to her victory. Her first LPGA victory with her parents in attendance made the victory much more meaningful. The World No. 1 will not be able to defend her championship thin is week’s competition despite just living a short distance away due to a wrist ailment.
As the event celebrates its tenth anniversary, there is still a tremendously excellent field despite Ko’s absence. Among the fafavouriteso win this week are World No. 2 Kelly Norda, World No. 4 Lydia Ko, and World No. 5 Atthaya Thitikul. The champion of the Evian Championship, Brooke Henderson, as well as Americans Lexi Thompson and Nasa Hataoka round out the top 10 players. Along with Henderson, two other Major champions from this year are in the field: Ashleigh Buhai, who triumphed at Muirfield last month in the exciting AIG Women’s Open, and Jennifer Kupcho, who won the Chevron Championship.
