The Players 2023 Purse:
The Players or alternatively known as The Players Championship is a flagship golf event. It is played annually in Florida, under the PGA Tour calendar. The ongoing The Players 2023 just marked the 68th annual edition of the long-running event. Like every year, the event is featuring the topmost PGA Tour golfers including the current 49 out of top 50 OWGR rankers.
The ongoing edition of the Players Championship saw a $5 million massive bump in the prize pool. As a result, the purse size went from 2022’s $20 million to $25 million in the latest PGA Tour 2023 event. As a result, all the standings will see a significant raise in their share of the purse.
The winner’s share for The Players 2023 is listed at $4.5 million. It is a record competitive amount in the history of PGA. For comparison, last year’s champion Cameron Smith received $3.6 million guaranteed purse for winning the event. So, it is almost a million-sized bump from 2022.
The runner-up of the 2023 event is set to receive $2.725 million in prize money. While the person following him will receive a $1.725 million prize for sitting in the 3rd position. Whereas the runner-up at the 2022 event, Anirban Lahiri earned $2.18 million purse, while the 3rd position holder Paul Casey received $1.38 million.
Amount of qualified golfers to receive a share of the purse has also increased from top 70 to top-75 golfers. Still, the purse share of the final standings will see a significant increment compared to last year. For example, the 73rd, 74th and 75th placeholders will earn $49,750, $49,250 and $48,750 respectively. While the 70th positioned player received only $43,000 in 2022.
