Tournament of Champions is PGA Tour’s traditional year opening golf event. It is played annually in Hawaii following the inauguration in 1953. Featuring the top-20 of previous year’s FedEx Cup standings, the event is played over 73 pars via stroke play format.
This year’s tournament of champions marks the 71st addition of the event. Sentry Insurance is the major sponsor of the event. Therefore, it is titled “Sentry Tournament of Champions 2023” at present. The 2023 field contains eight of the top ten OWGR leaderboard and nine of the top ten current FedEx Cup leaderboard.
The event is scheduled to begin this Thursday in Hawaii. It will be a four-day stroke play based event. However, the 2022 champion Cameron Smith will not be present in the field this year.
