The Players Championship is one of the most high-profile tournaments in golf but is not one of the four majors. It is widely considered the most prestigious event outside of The Open, US Open, PGA Championship, and The Masters and is even nicknamed ‘the fifth major’ by some.
This time it is going to be the 49th edition of the Players Championship and 41st played on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Golf legend Jack Nicklaus won the first Tournament Players Championship in 1974. He also won the event in 1976 and 1978.
The Players also offer the biggest purse of any PGA Tour event. Rather than most of the PGA tours, The Player Championship is organized by PGA Tour and The Players themselves.
The field consists of 144 players completing various criteria. There are Champion of the PGA Tour since The Player, winner of “the Four” Major Golf Tournamnets and The Players and World Golf Championships, and leading players in the FedEx Cup standings from the current and preceding seasons.
The Course has 72 Par and the Length is 7,189 yards. The Prize Money of the Players Championship is $20,000,000 USD.
