LIV Golf Mayakoba is a brand-new addition to the newly founded LIV Golf League. The professional golf tournament will inaugurate the upcoming 2023 LIV Golf League season. Additionally, as a co-sanctioned tournament of MENA Tour, it will close the 2022-23 season.
The upcoming Mayakoba-based LIV Golf event will feature a $20 million purse for individual standings. The Winning team of the competition will receive an additional $5 million purse. 12 total teams, each containing 4 professional golfers will participate in the event.
The tournament will run for three rounds over their days. Therefore, there will be no additional cut requirement. It will be played with the standard stroke play format on 54-hole. A total of 48 professional golfers will compete in the event.
Multiple popular ex-PGA Tour and ex-DP World Tour golfers will be present at the event. Popular individuals like Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, and Branden Grace will be among them. Unlike most professional golf events of PGA and DP World, LIV Golf tournaments are generally held as shotgun events. Therefore, all participants start their competition at the same time but at different holes based on their team draw. As such, the LIV Golf Mayakoba 2023 is planned to start with all competitors scheduled to start at 01:15 p.m. ET on Friday.
