Former world no. 1 and 2013 Masters winner, Adam Scott has taken to defend LIV and its player despite its heated rivalry with the PGA.
LIV has been subjected to criticisms and controversies ever since its establishment in 2022. Operating as a direct rival to the PGA, this newly launched tour has caused defections from numerous top players, including current world no. 2 Cameron Smith. Many in the golf world such as Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry repeatedly shared their discontent with a tour that works as a parallel to the PGA.
However, while some have only harsh words for the LIV defectors, there are those who are more sympathetic. Adam Scott, one of the biggest names in the golf world, opted to defend the players of the Saudi-backed event. In a recent interview, Scott stated, “I don’t necessarily see LIV as just pure evil for the game of golf. Maybe because I’m a little less emotive about it, I can be a voice of reason for one side or another.”
“Hopefully we can get beyond people having shots at each other and each organization can move on with what they want to do,” he added. “I believe the PGA Tour has to do what’s best for their product and LIV is going to do what is best for their product. I don’t have a problem with either of them.”
PGA ad LIV is currently fighting a lawsuit in regards to the accusation of antitrust violations. In times like that with all the dramas and controversies ongoing, Adam Scott has confirmed that he will be playing in the Australian PGA Championship, alongside many of the LIV players.
