The 2022 DP World Tour heads to Wales as the players get ready to take part in the Cazoo Open 2022 at the Celtic Manor Resort Links in Newport, Wales on August 4.
Previously known as the Wales Open, this tournament is a professional golf tournament part of the European Tour. It was sponsored by Cazoo in 2021 with backing from the world-renowned footballer Gareth Bale. It has been officially named ‘Cazoo Open Supported By Gareth Bale’ since.
The 22-year-old tournament is hosting a solid player field this year. Many strong European golfers have participated in hopes to bag a share of the lucrative prize money of €1.75 million.
The participant list has a strong presence of home players including the Welsh golf sensation Jamie Donaldson. Jordan Smith is on the playing field as well along with Ewen Ferguson. Jordan Smith is considered the absolute favorite to win the Cazoo Open 2022 by both viewers and pundits alike. Other top names include the Scottish Grant Forest, Victor Perez, Thomas Detry, etc.
The defending champion is Nacho Elvira who won the Cazoo Open last year defeating Justin Harding in a playoff. The Spaniard returns to Newport to play in the 2022 edition as he tees up to preserve his champion crown.
When will the tournament take place?
The 2022 Cazoo Open is a 72-hole tournament that is scheduled to commence on August 4. After 4 days of play from Thursday to Sunday, the tournament will end on the 7th of August 2022.
