The American Express 2023 Purse:
The American Express is a popular California-based annual PGA Tour golf tournament. It was previously known as the Desert Classic. The 64th official iteration of the event is currently going on in La Quinta. 157 top-class professional golfers participated in the event.
Organizers at American Express announced a purse pool of $8 million in 2023. Compared to last year’s $7.6 million purse pool, this year has seen a slight raise.
This year, 18% of the purse pool will be rewarded to the event’s champion. Rest of it will be divided among the top 65 golfers who successfully made a cut for the final round.
According to the official statement, the event champion will earn $1.4 million from the event. Whereas the defending champion Hudson Swafford received $1.38 last year. While the runner-up’s reward amount has been increased from $828,400 to $872,000.
Last year’s purse pool was divided among the top-70. Based on that, final three standings of 68th, 69th, and 70th received $15,884, $15,732, and $15,580 respectfully. Whereas, this year’s purse distribution limit was decreased to only top-65 players. Based on which, the final three standings of 63rd, 64th, and 65th are set to receive $17,520, $17,360, and $17,200.
While there has been an increase in the amount of the total purse pool, the difference isn’t affecting top positions this year. However, the lower standings are seeing a significant bounce in purse size.
