The golf world is getting ready for the final major of the year as the AIG Women’s Open 2022 is almost upon us.
The 46th edition of the AIG Women’s Open is scheduled to commence on the 4th of August at the Muirfield golf course in East Lothian, Scotland. It marks the first time for Muirfield, in its 275 years of illustrious history, to host the women’s open. Previously known as the Women’s British Open, It has been a major championship of professional women’s golf since 2001 recognized by both the LPGA tour and LET.
Similar to the past events, the field of players consists of 144 golfers who qualified for the tournament through various different criteria. Standings on the LPGA and LET Tour, world ranking, and performances in the other majors of the year are some requisites used to select the playing field.
As the 5th and final Major Championship of the year, the AIG Women’s Open appeals to all the top women golf players. This year is no different.
The only top 15 player who is missing from the playing field is world no. 15, Min Ji Park. Other than her, Every top-ranked golfer has opted to participate with hopes and dreams to achieve the ultimate glory of winning a major championship.
The biggest names that have arrived in Muirfield with the most expectations are Minjee Lee, Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, Jin Young Ko, and Georgia Hall. JY Ko, Lee, and Korda being the top 3 ranked players, are the obvious favorites for the tournament. However, players like Georgia, Maguire, and other top players have the eyes of golf fans around the world.
Defending champion, Anna Nordqvist from Sweden is also here to retain her crown at this majestic course in Scotland.
When will the tournament take place?
2022 AIG Women’s Open is a 72-hole tournament that is set to begin on August 4. After 4 days of play, the tournament will conclude on the 7th of August.
