Preview

The last time the Canadian Open was held was three years ago. The RBC Canadian Open has returned after a two-year break due to the pandemic, and a strong group of competitors has been assembled.

Rory McIlroy triumphed in 2019 and returns to St George’s Golf Club in Toronto as the defending champion, hoping to hone his game ahead of the US Open next week. However, two other players teeing it up this week have surpassed McIlroy in terms of dominance this season: Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas.

Thomas is a 15-time PGA Tour winner who will compete in his second Canadian Open. Aside from his victory at Southern Hills, he has seven top-10 finishes in 13 events and is now fourth in the FedEx Cup standings.

Scheffler won three times this year to take over the No. 1 position, and then he won his first major championship at the Masters. Scheffler’s most recent start ended in a playoff loss to Sam Burns in the Charles Schwab Challenge.
