Mo Salah’s lingering poor form since the start of the 2022-23 season has put him under a lot of criticism from former players and fans alike.
The forerunner among the critics is former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness, who became massively vocal going as far as questioning the Egyptian’s desire to win. “I hope I am wrong in saying this because I hope he heard or saw us at the weekend and he says he is going to get angry with me and prove me wrong, I just hope it’s not the case with him that he has signed a big contract and he’s got in his armchair,” said Souness in an interview with talkSPORT.
“Think of Mesut Ozil and [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang at Arsenal, that’s exactly what happened to them, big contracts. I hope I am wrong and Salah if you are listening, prove me wrong please,” he added.

Mohammad Salah has been the key player for the Reds for quite a few seasons now. He played a vital role in the Liverpool squad that won the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League and the 2019-20 Premier League title.
Last summer, many questions arose regarding the future of Salah at Merseyside. The 30-year-old Egyptian then ended all the speculation with his contract renewal that extended up to 2025. However, following the repeated poor performance from Salah this season, many are of the same opinion as Souness that the Liverpool forward has gotten complacent since his massive contract deal.
The Reds are currently 7th in the league standings after eight games. Their next match is against Napoli in the Champions League Group Stage on the 8th of September.
