History:
Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich bought the north London club, Chelsea, in the year 2003. Before that blues were not a title contender regularly. Roman invested a lot of money and bought world-famous stars for Stamford Bridge. The outcome was there also as Chelsea won loads of accolades during his tenure. However, the owner was famous for his hire and fire mentality. He was the owner of the club for nearly 19 years and during this time he appointed 13 managers. This single data is enough to comprehend how hot the managerial seat was.
But the result was there as the club won two UCL, Europa League, 5 premier league and other domestic and continental silverware under his tutelage. Though he was slammed by many due to his impatient mentality, it was actually working for his club. For instance, Roberto de Matteo was the 1st UCL-winning manager of Chelsea and he guided the team to the ultimate glory after being appointed as an interim manager. He took just 5 months to deliver the utmost prize. The same happened for Tuchel. The German boss delivered their 2nd Champions League within 6 months of engagement. Roman had to spend hundreds of millions of dollars as cut-off money. The Russian owner sold the club after getting sanctioned by the UK government. American businessman Todd Bohely and his consortium are now the new owners of the club.
New owner, Same culture:
Chelsea spent nearly 300 million euros in the last transfer window which is the most by any club in Europe. All of the players came as wanted by their coach Thomas Tuchel. Specifically, Wesley Fofana and Aubameyang were recruited because Tuchel demanded their presence. The on-field result was poor though. It takes time to shape the team, however, after spending so much on the market the new owner sacked the German boss after a shocking defeat in the 1st round of the Champions League. It’s surprising to many as he doesn’t even get ample time to work with the new arrivals. Tuchel was hugely successful during his time in the club. He won a Champions League, a European super cup and a club world cup. He reached another two finals too.
Graham Potter is the new manager:
Bohely had three managers on his shortlist including Zidane and Pochettino. Nevertheless, his first choice is Brighton coach Potter. According to the latest news, Chelsea appointed him as the next manager. Small details including the compensation to Brighton and hove Albion is also discussed between the two boards. Notably, Todd compensated €13 million to Tuchel and €2 million to his backroom staff.
